Basic Principles

“Conscious of their responsibility before God and man, inspired by the determination to promote world peace as an equal partner in a united Europe, the German people, in the exercise of their constituent power, have adopted this Basic Law.” (Excerpt from the preamble of the German Basic Law)

In accordance with the preamble of the German Basic Law, the Initiative: Verantwortung vor Gott und den Menschen (“Initiative: Responsibility before God and Man”) has made it its goal to promote the awareness of responsibility before God and man, as well as the understanding between the nations of the world, through joint reflection on God.

The activities of the Initiative do not propose to be an alternative to political, economic, and social action. Their focus is rather on offering advice and support to people in positions of responsibility in politics, economy, and society.

International understanding in its broad and narrow sense aims to prevent or defuse conflicts and promote peace and reconciliation. A world-wide network of personal contacts is maintained and continually expanded to reach this goal. Read more here:

The highest objective of the “responsibility before God and man” is serving one’s neighbours. Helping people who are in danger, as well as the poor, the disadvantaged, the hungry, or refugees, takes a special priority in this key mission of the Initiative on a national and international level.
